Music at the Memorial

Cielito Lindo

Accompanied by Magdalena Duhagon

De la Sierra Morena,
Cielito lindo, vienen bajando,
Un par de ojitos negros,
Cielito lindo, de contrabando.

Ay, ay, ay, ay,
Canta y no llores,
Porque cantando se alegran,
Cielito lindo, los corazones.

Ese lunar que tienes,
Cielito lindo, junto a la boca,
No se lo des a nadie,
Cielito lindo, que a mí me toca.

Ay, ay, ay, ay,
Canta y no llores,
Porque cantando se alegran,
Ccielito lindo, los corazones.

Ay, ay, ay, ay,
Canta y no llores,
Porque cantando se alegran,
Cielito lindo, los corazones.

Down from the Sierra Morena,
Pretty little darling, they come,
A pair of black eyes,
Pretty little darling, they are contraband!

Ay, ay, ay, ay,
Sing and don't cry,
Because singing brings cheer,
Pretty little darling, to our hearts.

That mole you have
Pretty little darling, near the mouth,
Don't give it to anyone,
Pretty little darling, it belongs to me.

Ay, ay, ay, ay,
Sing and don't cry,
Because singing brings cheer,
Pretty little darling, to our hearts.

Ay, ay, ay, ay,
Sing and don't cry,
Because singing brings cheer,
Pretty little darling, to our hearts.

Obituary

Anne Greene, of Lanham, MD, died on Friday, March 14, 2014 of complications of Waldenström's macroglobulinemia, a disease she lived with for 17 years. Daughter of Marston and Grace Sargent, she was born on July 6, 1940 in San Diego, CA. Anne pursued undergraduate studies at Westminster College of London, University of Grenoble, and the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies, among others. She received a Masters degree in Latin American Studies from George Washington University, and in 1990, she completed her Ph.D. in International Relations from American University on the role of the Catholic Church in the overthrow of the Duvalier regime in Haiti. Her career included teaching positions at William Wirt Junior High, the University of Indonesia and the Naval Academy, a research position at Howard University, and a staff position on the Senate Intelligence Committee.

She was married in 1963 to Michael Peter Greene. Her work and Michael’s, and their shared love of travel, took them all over the world, including a year in Peru, three years in Indonesia, and scuba diving trips almost everywhere. Other travels included a trip to Haiti with the Congressional Black Caucus, a 50th anniversary trip to the former Soviet Union, and extensive travels in Latin America, Europe and Asia. She collected beautiful handicrafts and learned phrases in the local language wherever she went.

Anne loved to sing, play the guitar, swim, dance, sew, and meet new people. She was a life-long learner, taking classes in music, Chinese, sewing, flower arranging, zumba, and more. Anne and Michael have two daughters, Lesley and Diana, and she loved to spend time with them and their families.

Anne is survived by Michael P. Greene, her husband of 51 years, daughters Lesley Greene (Robbert van Renesse) and Diana Greene Foster (Seth Foster), grandchildren Anneke, Tanya, Noah, and Kaia, brother Tom Sargent, and many nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the International Waldenström's Macroglobulinemia Foundation, www.iwmf.com
